Gelcoat vs. Scotch Bright pads

I recently purchased a used 94 GTX. While attempting to remove the old registration numbers I used scotch bright pads. Bad move. The numbers came off ok but the gelcoat is now dull in the area where the scotch bright pads were used. Any hints as to the best method and readily available products I can use to restore the original shine? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'd try some wax or rubbing compound maybe, If that doesnt work get a sticker to put over it LOL
