superjet pump

i am rebuilding the pump how do i get the shaft out? does it have to be pressed out or can i beat it out with a hammer?

Do you have the whole pump assembly out of the ski now Shaft and all? I think your asking how to get the impeller off the shaft?

I'm not exactly sure on the superjet pump, it changed over the years, but disassembly of yamaha pumps usually entails removal of the exit nozzle and steering assembly followed by the gentle sliding out of the duct / impeller / shaft assembly. I don't believe the 12oz to 10 lb "special tool" is necessary here. The pump shoud disassemble into 3 major units, and their should be pry tabs on each of the sections to help separate them (be careful not to damage the mating surfaces, or your pump may have serious cavitation problems...)

Oh, and if you are trying to get the shaft out of the bearings and the housing, then yes, you will need to have it pressed out, if you bollocks it with a hammer it'll never run true...

Once you have the impeller off, the shaft and rear bearing get pushed out from front to back, then the front bearings and seals can be pushed out from back to front.

ok, i have the pump apart and the impeller off. i need to replace the bearings, so you guys are saying i need to have the shaft pressed out from the side the impeller came off of? how can i do this myself? or will i have to take it somewhere?

I have gotten them out before with out pressing them but be careful not to destroy anything Tim...

If you need me to do it, I have the press and I can do it the same day I get it and ship back same day...

thanks, Robert i will let you know if i can't get it out. it's just that i need it done by next saturday so i would have to send it next day air which would cost a grip of money. but if i don't have it out by monday i might just do that.
