hey all, my names whit, i live in north alabama, im 39 and married with two little girls, an ever changing quiver of surfboards and a pile of jet skis. im a kawasaki man, my dad was a plymouth man... anyway, ive got an 83 440 thats way tricked out and scares the hell out of me, a slightly warmed over ts650, its still a pig, and a pile of parts.. 300s, 440s, 550s, seadoos, and tiger sharks. i just found this site and it seems like a great place to be when looking for pwc people. i do a lot of work on pwcs for friends cause even with the areas huge supply of large bodys of water no one wants to work on pwcs, oh well ill take the money, but ... to the point, im working on a 93 wave runner, a 650, 160psi comp. and you have to prime the carb with a splash of juice every time you crank it, once cranked it runs good, now the machines been sitting for about a year in side a body shop, and im not sure that some one has not tried to adjust the carb. can anyone tell me the adjustment settings for the mikuni, ie. high and low? or what you think might be the problem with the start up prime? any thoughts would be nice. thanks, whit

Whit,
I'm a Yamaha guy:) well Seadoo as well. This is a common problem. You should pop the carb apart. Two bolts, the throttle cable, fuel in, fuel return, and pulse line,,, the carb comes right off. If it is 100% stock there will be two head bolts to remove as well. There is a internal fuel filter that gets clogged with junk. This fuel filter is on the same side of the carb and the pulse line. Some other things you may want to do: pull the fuel tank and clean it out, replace the fuel filter, replace fuel lines. My Superjet fires up right away all the time even after sitting for a while.
Here is a link to a carb thread from a while back:

hey joe, i tore the carb apart for the 3rd timelast hight, and the filter was dirty! quick fix! i went in this morning hit the switch... nothing, pulled the tank and cleaned it out, added an in line filter along with a primer bulb. had to spin the crap out of it along with a LONG CHOKE BUT IT DID FINALLY (sorry) bust off, but ran like poo. pulled the carb back apart and found a very small hole in the damper diaphragm. so im looking for a rebuild kit for the 44. does that sound like a problem that would make it hard to start and starve for fuel some times? and thanks for the help man, your golden

If the carb is hard starting it might be that the fuel pump diaphram is worn and stretched out so on the cranking rpms the crankcase pressure is not high enough to get the fuel pumping though the N&S... Rebuild the carb and also check the N&S...
