Ignition System Options in a 99 XPL

Looks like a great web page, i have just found it, and would like to get involved (live in Australia).

I have a question regarding the ignition system on a 99 XPL. I am consdering modifying my ignition to improve the race performance (stock class) of the ski. I have 2 options, i think.

1. Have the existing computer re programmed. The issue i have with this is that i will not be able to use the ski socially (in stock format).

2. I have herd that some people install a MSD Seadoo 800 enhancer, and modify the wiring to suit a 951. Firstly does anyone know if the 800 enhancer will create problems in a 951 engine. Secondly, will the enhancer provide the same performamce as a reprogrammed computer. If so, i will be able to wire it in a way that i could remove it when i am not racing. I will also install connectors that match the stock plugs in the computer, then removal is a 2 second job.

3. Is there another ignition system that meets the stock rules, provides performance and plugs directly into the OEM connectors for a 99 XPL???

Anyone have any advice on this??????

Have the existing computer re programmed. This is stock class legal and should not harm the boat or engine. You should still be able to use it as a rec too.
I an not too sure about using the MSD in stock class, it may not be legal.....but then they are working on the rules for this year.

Hope this helps.

Is ignition legal in stock? It is in ski, but runabout? Not that it matters. Was not a stock boat on starting gate at WF without mod ignition, Kawis especially.
Jay is right, have Novi remap stock. With 99 digital thats your only choice without radical back date to 98 to get the Enhancer. The 800 ign and Enhancer was a cool way to go before all the remap. The Enhancer wont even touch the radical ignition curve possible from the stock remap. Not even total loss MSD has the versatility.

As posted in the 2005 IJSBA rule book: Stock Class
6.7 IGNITION AND ELECTRONICS - TWO-STROKE
6.7.1 Replacement batteries are allowed but must fit into the original equipment
battery box and be securely fastened.
6.7.2 The original electronic control unit may be modified or aftermarket so long as
it does not offer any additional inputs or outputs than the original unit, and it
must connect with the original connections. No additional sensors may be
added (e.g., exhaust gas temperature, detonation sensors, etc.). Engine temperature
sensors may be disabled.
6.7.3 Ignition timing may be altered by slotting ignition trigger mounting plate. An
adapter plate may be used for the sole purpose of relocating the ignition trigger.
6.7.4 Aftermarket spark plugs with a different heat rating may be used.
