88 JS 550 water in the cylinders

I took a scrapped js 550 off a friend and got it running. (It seemed to need only a rebuild on the starter and some adjustments to the jet pump.) The first time I took it out it ran fine, but the second time the engine started taking on water. Is this a problem with the engine, or is it a result of rolling the thing over a few times? If it's an engine problem, how fixable is it?

Thanks,

Jason

Don't know if you got this figured out or not yet...

Ways I'd think water could get inside the cylinders:

You submerge the ski and it takes on water faster than your bilge can get rid of it. The water sloshes around the engine compartment and into the engine through your carb.

You could also have a crack in the engine head or block. If I remember my water line layout, there's a water intake below the intake manifold, where the water routes around the cylinders and manifolds, then another on top of the head where part of it routes out of my hull.

I guess it could also be time to replace a head gasket.

I'd guess more likely its just water in the hull getting in the carb
