Hi,

I'm new to jetskis. I bought a akwasaki 550 with a few modifications already done to it. high comp head, coffmans exhaust bored to 580cc.

It ran well on saturday. when i got it home and flushed it out with the hose it was ticking over at very high revs so i pushed the stop button which didnt work and by now it was turning way too fast for my liking so i pulled the HT leads off, i was very suprised this didnt stop it either and it carried on revving high. i then did stop it by opening the throttle.
I didnt know petrol engines could run like a diesel.
Anyone know what i can do about this?
seen it before?

any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Pete

Air leak....

Do a pressure test on your motor. For furture reference, just grab the throttle, choke, prime it, or put your hand over the intake. Any of these should kill it. It is lean...that is why it runs away.

I wouldnt go as far as to say your seals need to be replaced. It might be as simple as a gasket.
You need to do what KgBsUkA suggested and perform a "leak down test". This will be the determining factor on what to do next.
I would go to groupK.com or jetskimechanic.com and do a web search on how to perform a leak down test. If you have any questions or need advice on building a leak down tester, I can help you.

A guy wants his problem of diesling solved. You need to isolate the problem in order to solve it. Replaceing crank seals might be a good idea but its not a sure fix to the problem. In order to ensure he finds the leak, he needs to know EXACTLY where the leak is coming from and that is only found by performing a leak down test.

No need to tear an entire motor apart just yet....
