I bought a 1998 GSX a couple months ago. My first problem was a loose negative battery connection - which presented some strange symptoms but I eventyually figured it out. My next problem was a beeping every couple minutes caused by my faulty fuel level system that I haven't yet completely fixed but was able to silence by using the jumper
tip I found on this site - thank you.
Now I have a new problem with it not turning over at all. I have charged the battery fully, cleaned all the connections I could reach, tried to jump the relay posts, tried to run a separate ground from battery to engine and all I still get is a buzzing and clicking from the coil. The only thing I am unable to do is check the connections directly on the starter (without disassembling alot of parts). Does this lead anyone who is knowledgable to a cause ? Starter, relay, coil, ground, other ??????? It is a very fun machine ......... when it is running !

When you jump the solenoid, what happens? If the starter doesn't spin, then you need to remove the starter anyhow. There will be a positive cable that attaches to it.

When I jump the relay, nothing at all happens, not even the previously mentioned buzzing and clicking. Definately nothing from the starter.

Time to remove the starter!

Fun to get to, that's for sure... Just start feeling around and you will feel the 3 bolts holding it on, then it just slides right out.

It turned out to be my starter all right. I had someone else fix it. Expensive, but I'm back on the water! Thanks for your help.
