I just heard on the radio that IE is full of so many flaws that Homeland Security is suggesting that people stop using it, and start using a different explorer program. IE is becoming too simple for hackers to infiltrate. They can steal your credit card numbers, passwords, and even your social. That's your whole identity!!! One that is recommended is Firefox, by Mozilla. Here's the link to the radio station I heard this from. Click it, and read more about it.

This is old news....IE has been a threat to being hacked for years now. This is why it is very important to get the latest updates from MS.
Most people with commen sense would never keep their SS# or credit card numbers on their computer....this is only asking for problems.
Another thing to remember is that most internet connections through an ISP are issued a dynamic IP address and would likely change each time you log on. This makes it tough to target a machine. If you have a static IP address, (or a dynamic one for that matter), you should invest in a router with NAT capability.

Just my .02 worth.

Even with staying on top of the Microsoft critical updates, and with a firewall, you still may be at risk. Microsoft is not being totally up to date with it's critical updates, and they are not submitting all the needed measurements in it's updates to keep your computer totally safe. Think about this for a moment... microsoft is in the business for the money. They will protect you to an extent, but that's about it. When one's computer experiences problems, what do most people do??? They contact tech support. In return, Microsoft will give you the required downloads to fix your computer... for a fee. Keep in mind, this is a repair... not an immunization. The same thing can happen over and over again, and each time... to fix the problem... you must pay.

I've got friends in the computer business (who went to college and received a master's degree in it). This is where I get this info from, and it is true.

Also, as Jay and TexasRex says, do not keep any personal info on your computer.

Do not apply for credit online.
Do not apply for a mortgage online.
Use caution when ordering things online (especially on e-bay... I heard on the news that e-bay is a hacker's dream).
I won't even do online banking.

No. I'm just sharing beneficial information. I could have kept this to myself, but I figured... nah... that's not me.
